A little bit of background about this domain. It was created some time ago. Steve Jobs and I were having a phone call together a few days before the release of the first iPhone. We chatted about a number of things and in the midst of that discussion he said something to me that I will never forget.
“Mike, we’re changing communications forever, very soon”.
3 days later, the first iPhone was launched, and he was right. After I hung up the phone with him that day, I created this domain because amidst all that we’d discussed there was a sense of tying everything together and so AppleWI or AppleWirelessInfrastructure is what I came up with for this name, the shorter version being easier to remember, but the longer one encompassing ALL technology under ONE APPLE.
Entertainment, Music, Photos, Telephonic Communications, Web, all in one service provided to customers by Apple.
So far, TIM has not seen the light on this one, and if I were CEO of Apple, this would be something that we would be doing because then we could offer customers a privacy spectrum that no other company could, and the best things that they could spend their money on in tech, the most secure would come from Apple and no other.
Monopoly on privacy? Perhaps, but in cases where we needed to, we would help those who were combatting things such as terrorism, child trafficking and other crimes.
We would be apolitical in nature because that’s the right way to serve our clients, and we would not slap labels on them with regards to sexuality because that’s their business and not the business of us.
Anyway…that’s a bit of background on the domain, why it was created, how it came to being and why the price is what it is.
